Adding/creating a new user account

How do I go about properly creating an additional account to log into Proxmox? I don’t exactly feel comfortable logging in as root to do my day to day operations. Can I rename the root account? Sorry if this is a super easy question. I’m a noob.

That is not possible in V1.9. But user management will be available in V2.0.

It's possible on v1.8 though correct? The guy that put me on to Proxmox is somewhat of a Linux guru and when he logged into his system I noticed he used his first initial, last name vs. root.

if someone modified the system you should ask him how - we cannot know this. the 1.x series does not support users, see answer from Dietmar.
