Howdy.

We have a system in production that has 2 networks. Main network for cluster communication and VM internet access, and one 10gbit for ceph.

Currently we are just using the main net as cluster network.

Should i add the second 10git network as a backup cluster ring?

If a network cable, or networkcard dies on one of the servers, does the server just continue to communicate via the 10gbit network? if so, does the HA-failover really kick in?

If I understand this correctly you want to add the already used 10G Ceph link as backup for cluster communication? If that's the case, then don't do that. It would be best practice to separate the cluster network from anything else, you can use a 1G link as it will not need much bandwidth. Sharing the cluster network with VM traffic or Ceph could cause latency which could lead to interrupted cluster communication which will lead to problems. If you want redundancy you can opt for a second non-shared network as the second ring.
