add existing standalone node to new cluster

Hello,

I have a setup with a standalone node without a cluster configured. I want to add a LXC container to the node but this isn't possible because of the error message "Node seems to be offline" in the GUI when I try to create the new container.

I read the documentation and if I'm not mistaken these are the steps to create a new cluster and and configure nodes (https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Cluster_Manager#_preparing_nodes). But it also writes that it isn't possible adding a node with existing guests to this newly created cluster. Additionally I found this thread (https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/adding-non-empty-node-to-cluster.90976/) mentioning that this should be done by creating a cluster on the non empty node. But how can this be done?

Or is this the wrong way to add an existing standalone node to a (not yet created) cluster?

Thanks in advance.

Could you please provide more details, as it's not entirely clear? I believe there are two problems here:
  1. The first issue is that you are unable to create an LXC container on your standalone node, due to the error message "Node seems to be offline."
  2. The second issue is that you are trying to add an existing node that already has guests (VMs or containers) into an already created cluster, but you are unsure how to proceed with that.
Can you please confirm if these are the issues that you have?

1. is correct: I cannot a LXC container on a standalone node because of that error message.
2. is not fully correct. I don't have any cluster created yet because I don't understand how I can add the existing guests to this newly created cluster.

Could you give more information on your setup?
