Is it possible to access the Proxmox VE and the VM machines using chromebook, and if so, how?

If I type the ip to my VE from my chromebook I get "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE" and page cant be loaded. Doing the same from my windows machine gets me into the Proxmox VE, no problem.

What am I missing?

You didn`t forget the "s" of the "https:" and didn't forget the ":8006" at the end?
Chromebook is in the same subnet as your windows machine?

Maybe the chromebook doesn't like the self-signed certificate and won't offer you to visit that webUI, even if the authentification can't be trusted?

Oops, seems that I did forget the "s"

Speaking of, is it possible to get to the server from outside the local network?

Yes, you could set a port-forward in your router. But it would be more secure to run a VPN server (check if your router can act as a VPN server or if not, set up a VPN server in a VM/LXC) and then use a VPN client to connect over the internet to your local network.
