I have a 5TB external HDD that I want to use on a TrueNAS VM. I can create the ZFS and all, but when I add it to the VM I can only add 4200GB. Am I missing something?

5TB according to HDD manufacturers is 5*1000^4, which is only 4.5*1024^4 (4.5TiB). Then there is probably some meta-data overhead, so around 4200GiB might be normal (if Proxmox/ZFS reports in power of 1024).
