Greetings. The Proxmox VE 8.1-2 installer creates 3 partitions on my boot media. Is that what it should do? I'm having trouble running it on an old system and I suspect this has something to do with it. Thanks

Update: the issue seems to be that my BIOS are too old to boot GPT. I can create MBR bootable install media, but the boot media isn't recognized as bootable by my hardware.

You could try to install a Debian 12 which allows you to manually partition and format your system disks and then install PVE8 on top of that:
