Currently it is showing up as LVM and not able to be used for backups.
Due to how backup doesn't like to be on a large drive I loaded it on USB and is sdc.
what steps do I need to do to get the 20tb usable for backups.

From what I see is I want it to be like sdb but not sure how to get it there.

Also while at it is there a way to only backup one drive instead of all on a backup?
I ask as I have my security camera DVR that I'm only worried about holding the main drive and not the camera footage on the backup.
I have another way that I'm handling the camera footage to ensure minimal loss.

I would like to defiantly say so far everybody has been very helpful and has allowed me to learn a lot as I'm now completely off of Vmware, and just working out the backups. After that work on bringing on shared drive that will work between all devices to possibly turn off a few servers, except when I'm playing!

Hi!

what makes you say this? Do you see any errors when creating the datastore? If yes, please also post the syslog (using journalctl).
You should be able to use a LVM partition as a datastore. PBS only needs a directory and doesn't care about the underlying filesystem.

If you want to use ext4 on /dev/sda as well, you can format it (make sure you don't have any important data on it!) and write a ext4 filesystem on it (e.g., using fdisk).

If you backup a vm from PVE, go to the hardware tab of the vm Here you can select the hard disk, then click "edit". In the edit window you will find a checkbox "Backup", which you can uncheck.

Thanks for answers.
Yes it will not allow me to do anything with SDA. When I wipe go to wipe it I get a device or resource is busy and can't wipe it.
Since the LVM is showing there it wont allow me to choose the drive to add it as a datastore.

It seems like the disk is in use elsewhere. You can check the open files using `sudo lsof | grep <mountpoint>", then terminate the corresponding processes.
If this doesn't work you can also unmount it and then use `--force` on the wipefs command.
