Hi,

We are planning a setup with Proxmox. Coming from another platform so lots of things to consider.

My machines:

Server A:
SuperMicro 1029U-TN10RT
2x Intel Xeon 6226R
256GB ECC REG
SuperMicro Intel VROCSTANMOD RAID
6x PM983 1920GB NVME
2x PM983 3840 GB NVME
Note: all sets of disks configured as RAID1( 10 also supported )
NIC: 2x 10Gbps, 2x 1000

Server B:
SuperMicro 1029U-TN10RT
2x Intel Xeon 6226R
256GB ECC REG
SuperMicro Intel VROCSTANMOD RAID
6x PM983 1920GB NVME
2x PM983 3840 GB NVME
Note: all sets of disks configured as RAID1 ( 10 also supported )
NIC: 2x 10Gbps, 2x 1000

Server C:
Supermicro X9DRT-F
2x Intel Xeon E5-2630v2
160GB ECC REG
4X 1000GB SSD
Soft Raid 10
NIC: 2x 10Gbps, 2x 1000

Switch:
2x 10GB switch

At the moment we are running DAS on each machine without HA. We would like to setup HA with Proxmox and a shared storage. Thinking of Ceph. However we see that 3 ( identical? ) nodes are required.

My questions:

Is it possible to have server A and B as front nodes, and the third only for quorum? Also looking at the storage ( but also also memory and cores ) of each machine?
What is the right procedure if we can use this setup and taking the third 'different' node with it?
If possible, wil performance be affected in any way on the 2 head nodes? ( these servers are a lot faster )
If we have understood it correctly from the documentation, RAID should be disabled on hwraid. But is it also for this setup the best way? ( we use a VROC )

Its possible. If you look around the Net and even this forum you will find that people have asked this questions and done it. However every single time when someone says "its possible" it is always qualified by "its highly not advisable". Its not something that anyone would advise to run in production.
Like you said "3 nodes are required", 5 nodes are preferred.

Good luck
