Hi All,

I have an issue with one KVM machine with XP SP3 where I have installed TrendMicro Officescan Server 10. The machine have 1 CPU and 1GB RAM. Until few weeks ago everything was normal...but after upgrade to 1.4 this machine start to move very slow and the CPU it's all the time in 100% load.

I give her 3GB RAM...but the same situation. It's the only machine started on this server.

In the screen shot you can see the status of the server with only 1 VM started (this one) and 1 GB RAM allocated.

Where I need to check?

personal I'm worry about the IO delay...

no idea whats happening here but update to the latest version is always a good start. (apt-get update and upgrade).

Xeon 3220 don't have HT - if I remember well...
PVE it's on the last version available!

Machine is running with 1 socket and 1 Core - if I put 2 cores...the machine don't start well...

I run this machine on different server on cluster - this one have Core 2 Duo - and the same errors.

Maybe it's a Trend Micro problem...I will try to discuss also with them about this.

the screen-shot shows an old kernel.

I can't see the servers right now because are into a different location; I make the updates, and restart! After that the system don't boot from the last available kernel?

I guess this is no standard installation? Maybe you have a modified initrd image and forgot to update?

It's the standard PVE 1.4;

I just make the update to the new kernel (2.6.24-9) and the system run in the same parameters - very bad!

I need to intall aditional drivers for KVM machine? This one was created on version 0.9 beta...and it's running from that period without no problems...until now!

What can I do more?

But I have available only 2 kernels: 2.6.24-8 and -9 (it's a PVE1.4 clean install)

I take a closer look to the server and I see that all the time the disk it's busy and something need to be writed on him...

I need to instal IDE drivers in Virtual machine? Or any other drivers?

I see that the IDE parameters work in PIO Mode only! no UDMA access...it's normal?

I thought you can't boot? You already solved that problem?

I was capable to boot all the time! The problem is that the system it's very, very slow! And also, pn PVE server I see that the disk work all the time!

I'm very worry because of the IO Delay (more then 30%) - from this reason all PVE environment on this system work slow...

THe VM run a XP Pro SP3. On this XP it's installed TrendMicro OfficeScan Server 10 (SP1) (based on Apache 2); I don't make any Windows updates...since SP3

Now, I make a test; the machine was created log time ago with Hard Disk in .qcow2 format. So, I change disk format; I create another disk in RAW format, I use Acronis to clone disk, and boot from the new disk.

The performance it's more better now...the system respond to my commands. And also the IODelay it's now between 0 - 5%.

I intend to make more tests and see what it's the real reason....

I make some final tests and now the machine it's stable; what I do:

1) I replace qcow2 disk with a raw format disk (I clone the disks using Acronis)

2) I replace the NIC - Realtek 8139 with e1000 NIC. I download and install latest drivers from Intel website.

These is what I do to make the machine run stable again...

I still don't have an explination why this VM became so slow after the update to 1.4.
