Hi Everyone

I have been digging and digging. Can't seem to get a definitive yes or no on this.

I have an Asus NUC with 1 NIC.

Main Question:
Is it possible to have Proxmox enable a guest VM with PFsense as a virtual router for physical devices like WAP, laptops etc via a switch?

Issue:
I can get it to work with guest VMs in Proxmox, but having a lot of difficulty getting the LAN via my managed switch to a physical device outside proxmox itself.

I have spent days on this now. So starting to question if it's actually possible.

Thank you in advance!

as a virtual router ... via a switch
It is possible; I believe you would need to:
  • enable "Router Advertisement" in pfSense VM > Firewall > Options
  • attach VM network interface to default vmbr0 bridge
  • and possibly more configuration inside pfSense itself
but it is definitely not something that is impossible to do

UPD: After reading title again, I do have to warn you that you should not do that, your firewall would not work as you probably expect it to work, as everything is going to be on same unmanaged switch
