Implement Proxmox on a Dell PowerEdge R7625 and connect to HPE Synergy HD6500 storage using the 1GbE RJ-45 ports for iSCSI.

Connectivity:

  • Dell PowerEdge R7625 has a 1 Gbps Ethernet (1 GBE) port.
  • HPE Synergy HD6500 also has 1 GBE RJ-45 ports.
Questionnaires:
  • iSCSI storage requires a network connection between the Proxmox host (R7625) and the storage (HD6500) ?
  • If both devices are connected via the 1 GBE port, iSCSI should be detected in Proxmox ?
  • Steps to Configure iSCSI on Proxmox with 1 GBE ?

I want to Know, whether my planned architecture will work or not? If, it work kindly provide document or article.

Hello @Godson

  • iSCSI storage requires a network connection between the Proxmox host (R7625) and the storage (HD6500) ?
iSCSI is a network protocol that encapsulates SCSI commands for transmission over TCP/IP. TCP/IP is typically delivered over a physical medium, such as 1Gbit RJ45 Ethernet, among others.
To summarize: yes you do need physical network connection between PVE and Storage to utilize iSCSI between the two.

If both devices are connected via the 1 GBE port, iSCSI should be detected in Proxmox ?
iSCSI is not like a USB that can just Plug&Play. It will not be just "detected". You will need to go through appropriate steps to configure it.
