Is this a good machine for a home lab? Just want to run a few low load rocky linux 9/10 VMs. I figured install proxmox on the m.2 ssd with ZFS and use it for VMs. Like compression that ZFS offers. Add a 2.5 sata drive for backups. The one I ordered has an intel i5 8th generation. Also has 16gb ram and 256g m.2 but figure I might upgrade ram and m.2 for more capacity.

I’ve been using an Elitedesk 800 G5 SFF in a Ceph cluster and it has been working great. I am booting from a HDD and have 2 NVME drives in each node of the cluster. The power consumption is reasonable and they have been as reliable as a rock. I put a 40G NIC in each. They do not have enough CPU / PCIe performance to saturate the 40G, but they do fine for my workload. Since I’m running CEPH, I expanded mine to 64 GB RAM. I also have i7 CPUs installed.
