truenas and pci-e controller

I am going to install proxmox and on it hosting a vm with truenas instance. Obviosly a controller for truenas will be pass-through. Which is the best practise to acces truenas data? The first way i think is to access them as an external smb or nfs share, but there is a way to make it...
