Nothing special - just whatever I found cheapest online from a brand I'd heard off and a reputable supplier. I've noticed that both NVME and 2.5" SATA SSDs seem to have come down hugely in price over the last few months, so if I was doing it again I would likely make a different choice and have...
MAny thanks, XFS on the SATA disk for OS and NVME for the VMs it is. Availability isn't an issue, as this is a lab, so I'm always sat next to it if it's running.
Hi all,
I'm getting better with Proxmox, but still have some confusion over performance and storage options.
I have some questions for you good people today, and I hope you can save me a lot of testing time.
I'm setting up a new standalone Proxmox node. Won't be clustered. Not for...
It's a hook script so can be referenced in /etc/vzdump.conf. Just save the script somewhere, set permissions on it so that it can be executed then edit the script: line in the vzdump.conf file to point to the script file you created. If you take a look at the top of this thread, I think it's...
Ah, perhaps I worded that update badly.
It might have been better like this:
My next question was this:
Inside the hook script, ${HOSTNAME} gets me the name of the VM being backed up
Outside the hook script, $HOSTNAME gets me the name of the PVE node.
How do I make the hostname of the PVE node...
Yes, the Linux way is very interesting. Great for learning new things. I keep many notes!
Next question -
Inside the hook script, ${HOSTNAME} gets me the name of the VM being backed up
Outside the hook script, $HOSTNAME gets me the name of the PVE node.
I have worked this out so that I can now...
Thanks ojaksch !! works like a charm.
I am looking at PBS, but i haven't read enough of the docs yet to work out if I can use my NFS NAS as the backup storage back-end. It's the only thing I have with enough disk space to store everything. Currently the PVE hosts just back their VMs up to...
Seems that this script no longer works in PVE 7.
Backup window shows the following lines:
INFO: stopping kvm after backup task
INFO: archive file size: 10.86GB
INFO: basename: missing operand
INFO: Try 'basename --help' for more information.
I have determined that $target gives the full path...
Ah, of course it does! The virtual CD-Rom hardware is linked to a .ISO on the NAS. I'll remove the CD Drive, there's no need for it now that I have finished installation.
Many thanks.
I have 2 proxmox notes (not clustered) in my test environment.
I have a number of VMs on each, and before I start testing I want to back them all up so that I can reset to the start of the test (yes I'll also use snapshots, but this provides a way to re-create the whole environment on different...
To confirm for anyone else finding this thread with the same issue:
My solution was to use the Debian netinst image and the non-graphical installer. I believe it is only necessary to install the base image, but I also installed the SSH server to make the rest of the installation easier. Then...
Case closed. All fixed.
Thanks for the pointers.
To confirm for anyone finding this thread with the same issue:
Interface names are different between VMware and Proxmox, so from the above hints, I went digging.
https://wiki.debian.org/NetworkConfiguration is a help.
/etc/networks/interfaces...
I'd love to, but my only other monitor is the same make and model... Half the point of virtualization for me is to avoid having keyboards and monitors everywhere! I'll just rebuild with the Debian installer
I've installed Proxmox twice so far
Once on an HP Microserver N54L, which has a VGA output only,
Once on an Intel NUC with HDMI.
Same monitor both times
The HP couldn't be installed from the Proxmox ISO, I had to install Debian with no GUI and then add the packages. Even the Debian installer...
Hi all,
New to Proxmox, transitioning from VMware. After a couple of teething issues with the changes of concepts, I'm loving Proxmox.
Performance is better on the same hardware, and oh the joy of having in-built backup that works!
Anyhow, to the point. I'm converting VMware VMs to Proxmox...
