so I did the following, since I was attempting to install Proxmox in legacy (no UEFI) I installed ubuntu first, then attempted to install Proxmox. The installation of course, formatted all of my disks. After that the installtion went throug successfully. zpool seems to be working fine...

also, no I didnt have UEIF installed (didnt have any other OS installed on the SSD)
