I have PVE 7.3 installed directly on a RAID-1 mirror of 2x Crucial SSDs that are burning up too quickly for my liking. About a year in, they have 39 and 38% wearout.
Rather than outright replacing that volume, I'd rather just move the PVE install itself to the ZFS RAID of Samsung...
This just happened again during tonight's backup run from a new server with a p2v migrated VM that was newly created this past weekend. I hadn't had a successful backup all week. This time around, it finally bombed out and blew away the partition table (512 byte MBR loss probably, but I don't...
Thanks @fabian for making me aware of this bugzilla thread. Glad I'm not the only one but also not too thrilled that this has been a non-reproduceable bug for 2+ years now. I'll add my own experiences here:
- I have been replacing old on-prem servers (we are an MSP) with Micro ITX rackmounts -...
For more times than I can count now, across about a half dozen VMs over the course of several months, I have experienced partition table losses due to Proxmox backups. I have to boot the VM with a partition recovery tool (easeUS), do a scan, it always finds the partitions, thankfully, then...
Power settings were set to sleep after 2 hours so I’m hoping that was it. Changed it to high performance plan with no monitor or sleep enabled.
PVE backups start at 12am daily.
If this continues to happen, I will investigate further. Thanks for the aha moment with power options though. That...
I'm still having this issue. Seems to happen weekly so far around 11pm, then again at 2am. Will try to check Windows itself. Definitely a strange one. Here's my PVE version:
proxmox-ve: 7.2-1 (running kernel: 5.15.39-1-pve)
pve-manager: 7.2-7 (running version: 7.2-7/d0dd0e85)
pve-kernel-5.15...
A Windows VM (1 of 3) on a PVE host randomly suspended twice within a few hours. The first time, I tried to start it again but it wouldn't work, so I had to do a Stop then restart and it came back online just fine. Then backups ran, ended successfully, and about an hour later, the same VM ended...
Thanks for the reassurance - to clarify, the RAIDz1 is currently healthy and scrub never finds errors. The problem we've been having is the SSDs can't seem to keep up with the performance and we have had to recover partitions inside the VM three times now. We've just been having lots of problems...
I have a Proxmox node with 2x 240GB ZFS mirrored drives for the system itself, and 6x 480GB SSDs in a RAIDz1.
The RAIDz1 array has faulty SSDs that are wearing out too fast and right now I'm dealing with corruption that's breaking partition tables on some of the VMs. This particularly seems to...
Ok, like a good admin, I RTFM and did it all by myself. Do I get a cookie?
This is what I did, and it was very simple lol
SSH in directly to the machine, since stopping services will kill the GUI
systemctl stop proxmox-backup
cd /mnt/datastore/vm-backups
mkdir pve-backups/
mv vm pve-backups/...
@fabian this was the answer I was looking for. I just simply need to change this:
root@pbs:~# proxmox-backup-manager datastore list
┌─────────────┬───────────────────────────────────────┬─────────┐
│ name │ path │ comment │...
I goofed when I first setup and configured my PBS server.
I have 10x 8TB drives that I am doing a RAID-10 mirror with ZFS for approximately 40TB of usable storage.
I set up a datastore called vm-backups that is using ALL of that available space, because that's the point right? The pool name...
+1 from me. Going to try out the DiscordDark theme though.
UPDATE: DiscordDark works great! Installed it on all my nodes. Not going to try it on my PBS though as I couldn't find out if it's supported with that as well...
Am I over-allocating RAM? 96GB assigned to a Windows Server 2016 VM on top of Proxmox 6.4.
Host has 128GB physical RAM. We have had this configuration for several months without issue, but have experienced extreme slowness/freezing where a forced Reset is the only recourse 3 days in a row...
Ok, it looks like my server is back online and operational! Thank you for the tips and guidance here - really appreciate it.
I'm confident enough to upgrade the rest of my cluster when the time comes.
Going to spend the rest of the night actually re-doing my first server as a proxmox backup...
Ok, understood. I've always done the upgrades via the WebGUI so I know it was doing dist-upgrade all along. Thanks for the clarification
I did apt --fix-broken install and it looks like it's working so far.
I noticed that my networking is completely down so hopefully after this install fix...
Well, well, well. I decided to go ahead and upgrade one of our servers which doesn't have any VMs and sure enough the upgrade bombed after a short time:
Errors were encountered while processing:
/tmp/apt-dpkg-install-srvgMv/418-xdelta3_3.0.11-dfsg-1+b1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg...
Hello all,
We are running PVE 6.4 and looking to upgrade to 7. I have done 5.4 to 6 in the past, back in 2020, with no issues. However, this time around, there seem to be a little more "gotchas" outside my comfort zone - particularly when it comes to hardcoding the MAC Address of the bridge(s)...
