[SOLVED] No CTs/VMs start after unplanned shutdown. /dev/pve/vm-100-disk-0 does not exist. LVS data corrupted?

FIXED! Unfortunately I'm not precisely sure why... The main issue appears to be that the pve/data thin pool meta data got corrupted. This meant I couldn't activate pve/data. Earlier in the day I ran lvconvert --repair pve/data and it errored with a bad checksum. Later in the day I reran it...

[SOLVED] No CTs/VMs start after unplanned shutdown. /dev/pve/vm-100-disk-0 does not exist. LVS data corrupted?

Next update... Read through (and started to implement recommendations) from both https://charlmert.github.io/blog/2017/06/15/lvm-metadata-repair/ and https://www.unixrealm.com/repair-a-thin-pool/ but both really focus on an LVM thin pool that has run out of space. In both cases they have...

[SOLVED] No CTs/VMs start after unplanned shutdown. /dev/pve/vm-100-disk-0 does not exist. LVS data corrupted?

Bump... Anyone out there? I considered trying the advice at https://charlmert.github.io/blog/2017/06/15/lvm-metadata-repair/ but one of the first things it discusses is to run lvdisplay /dev/mapper/pve-data and I don't even have a /dev/mapper/pve-data... EDIT: I figured out that my mapping...

[SOLVED] No CTs/VMs start after unplanned shutdown. /dev/pve/vm-100-disk-0 does not exist. LVS data corrupted?

FIXED: See solution here: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/no-cts-vms-start-after-unplanned-shutdown-dev-pve-vm-100-disk-0-does-not-exist-lvs-data-corrupted.86664/post-380359 Hello all, I had a UPS go bad and my Proxmox machine shutdown incorrectly (power essentially just pulled). Now I've...

[SOLVED] Expose CIFS Share to LXC Container

I am *far* from a Proxmox expert. But I *think* that... No "secure" (& Unprivileged) container will be able to write to a network share and that not being able to write to a network share is part of what makes it "secure". I don't think that a Privileged container is really "insecure" or that...

[SOLVED] Expose CIFS Share to LXC Container

I haven't had a write problem. I'm wondering, is your container an "Unprivileged Container"? You can check by looking at the "Options" for your container. If it is set to "Yes" try changing it to "No" and see if that helps. Another thought: In your container, can you write as root or with sudo?

[SOLVED] LXC Container Config Overwritten on Container Restart

Thanks dietmar! I found that config file location but sorta dismissed it because the format didn't match what I was seeing at /var/lib/lxc/103/config. Regarding using "normal container mount point syntax" I wasn't familiar with this syntax but did a little googling and found the "Bind Mount...

[SOLVED] LXC Container Config Overwritten on Container Restart

I'm attempting to mount a host directory in a container as per my other thread @ (https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/expose-cifs-share-to-lxc-container.44757/#post-213868). I am able to get this to work by modifying the container config file. Specifically I'm adding something like...

[SOLVED] Expose CIFS Share to LXC Container

[SOLVED] See UPDATE #2 at the bottom I'm having a bear of a time exposing a CIFS Network Share to an LXC Container. I tried mounting it directly from within the LXC Container and AppArmor stopped this from happening. I tried mounting it during the LXC startup using lxc.mount in the config...

    Best practice for Proxmox self-backup

I considered that first but my script is written in BASH so running them back to back was easier as a stop gap. I actually think it would be better to get a "max number of backups" from the user and then, at the end of your script, search for files that match the...

Thanks guletz. Wasn't aware of rsnapshot. I'll be looking into it.

    Best practice for Proxmox self-backup

Slightly old thread but wanted to say... Thanks DerDanilo! Just like the OP, I backup my VEs/CTs to a network storage location but wanted to save the "config" of the Proxmox VE installation. This seems like functionality that should be baked into Proxmox: a Backup/Restore button for the node...

    Recommended Hard Drive Configuration?

I had intended on using a HW RAID w/ a DELL H700. Still not 100% decided yet based on reading about difficulty of extending arrays in this environment. Looks like the H700 can't extend RAID 10 but can extend RAID 5 using Dell OMSA. I had been planning on a RAID 10 array but may switch to RAID...

    Recommended Hard Drive Configuration?

Thanks for all of the replies. It sounds like having SSDs available for the OS or VMs gives you "standard SSD read/write speed improvements" but that this would primarily be geared toward applications with lots of users and a need for quick I/O. I plan on running a web server and few other...

    Recommended Hard Drive Configuration?

Hello, I'm putting together a Dell R510 as my first Proxmox server. I've been looking around (on the forums and Google) for recommendations on the Configuration of the Hard Drives in the system and have been coming up fairly empty handed. For instance, the FreeNAS Community recommends the OS...
