if I switch to virtIO, it does not actually touch the physical disk right? I will still be able to boot from the physical disk normally (without proxmox) if needed?
I was able to solve the issue by following this guide for UNRAID .. dumping and hex edit the vbios:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IP-h9IKof0
But I have some minor issues in the VM... micro stutter when gaming and no gaming (less less frequent) with some weird audio when the stutter occur...
I am running proxmox 6.1.2 on
ryzen 2600
Asus TUF B450m gaming plus
16 gb ddr4 3000mhz ram
Asus Cerberus GTX 1070 TI 8GB(primary slot)
Palit gt 710 1GB (secondary slot)
I have mainly followed this guide to passthrough my 1070ti :
https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Pci_passthrough
and also...
but you must admit .. once you miss a step or misconfigure something.... proxmox becomes a big mess to debug and solve.
Most of time, they just tell you to resinstall it....
I installed windows on the same machine (the machine on which I also installed proxmox) and it worked fine.
I also just tried installing proxmox and the windows vm on another SSD ... an intel one. Same error....
so windows installed well on bare metal.. but not as VM..
I switched HDD .. first install of windows 10 went well but had issues and errors in the windows.. So decided to re-install it... boom same errors as before ... proxmox starting to get on my nerves... I will try other hypervisors
I managed to install a ubuntu vmware but I am getting frequent errors on it.
I suspect my HDD may be faulty but in Disk health, it says "PASSED"... so my HDD is good right?
I noticed when I install proxmox on a disk, it erases the latter (with no warning). I have tried only one disk for the moment.
If i add other disk and I do a new installation, will it erase all my disks or only the one on which it is installed?
still same error.. anyone has an idea?
sidenote: I often get an error with locking conf file when trying to stop or restart my VM:
trying to acquire lock...
TASK ERROR: can't lock file '/var/lock/qemu-server/lock-100.conf' - got timeout
My experience with proxmox has been really rocky so...
