I know this is an old question... but I thought people may like the actual solution to this issue. You can convert your disks to virtio ones if you wish.
Firstly, there's no need for all the disks to be IDE or SATA. Just the boot (/dev/sda) needs to be IDE to begin with. You can set the...
Well,
I've done nothing but go out for lunch and when I've come back it's working. 8Gb of server memory but using only 800Mb of system memory.
Lovely...
Thanks for your help.
Hi,
It hasn't reduced any actually.
I've upped the memory on my 2 servers to 4Gig each (10Gig in the server) and it's showing 8Gig used. The servers are just vanilla installs, no apps installed so they aren't using much.
I'm right in thinking that this is expected for Windows servers...
Hi,
I'm using 1.5 and have just installed the right kernel to let me use it, but I notice that it's not being used. Do I need to do anything special to use KSM or should it 'just work'?
I have 2 Win2k3 servers running and no memory is being shared.
pve01:~# cat...
Yes it does.
Doesn't get anywhere but at least I can see the Bochs/Qemu BIOS page with no bootable devices shown.
As soon as I add in the 'Network' option it just fails immediately.
Thanks
Hmm.
Mine doesn't get that far. The VM never actually starts, just drops straight back stopped in the web interface giving the error I posted in my first post.
Are you using 1.5? Maybe it's a bug? I'll have to try with 1.4.
Thanks
That's just what I've done, created a bog standard VM and changed the boot device to Network. I've set the network card to e1000 but no difference.
The only thing I can think is that my network set up is slightly different to the norm with vmbr0 having bond0 attached to it which is the 2...
Is it possible to PXE boot a VM?
I've created a VM and set the boot device to network but now it won't start at all. I get the following in the log: -
qm[8196]: VM 104 start failed: command '/usr/bin/kvm -monitor unix:/var/run/qemu-server/104.mon,server,nowait -vnc...
Hi,
Is there any way to manually set the speed/duplex of a NIC in a straight-off-the-cd proxmox install?
I know how to do it via ethtool but it's not installed by default and my machine doesn't have net access.
Thanks
Chris
Hi,
I think I found a bug in the setup program for Proxmox 1.5
When configuring the IP, subnet mask etc. I want to use 255.255.0.0 as the subnet mask, but the program keeps changing it to 255 when i enter 0. It allows any other number other than 0.
I've proceeded with 255 for now but...
Dietmar,
What makes it dangerous? I hope to demo this to management at some stage and having a useful argument as to why we shouldn't do it would help.
Thanks
Chris
Tom,
Of course, almost anything is possible via the command line, but to do these things via the web interface would make the product more powerful IMO.
I know if I was demo'ing Proxmox to my management and I had to show them a cloning function they would lose interest immediately the CLI...
A usage scenario I see for a cloning function is to allow rapid testing of an application change, i.e. clone machine and stick it on a private network bridge, install an update to the application and test it. Clone can be deleted afterwards and then change performed on the original...
Hi,
I'm about to embark on some research and testing of different server virtualisation products (i.e. VMWare, Citrix, Oracle, Proxmox, RedHat, Hyper-V) and I wanted to ask the wonderful proxmox community if they had any advice on some good products for benchmarking performance that works on...
It was this line that confused me a little: -
the physical machine has disk device /dev/sda (read this with "fdisk -l", and look for "hda" or "sda" or similar, NOT dm- or other...)
As one of my servers would have /dec/cciss and not /dev/[sh]da I wondered if this would work or not.
Other...
Hi,
We run HP servers with HP HW Raid controllers (like Smart Array 6i) that run Windows 2003 Server.
I'd like to be able to P2V these servers somehow but the instructions leave me a little confused.
What's the best way to P2V a server like this? Can I do it directly or should I go via...
