Incidentally, after yesterday's reboot, the backup succeeded overnight. If history is an indicator, it will work for a day or two then fail again....
This IS the replacement drive with the same issues. SpinRite from GRC did a full surface analysis on this drive and it's predecessor and reported no errors. Any other places to look?
I agree it *seems* to be a file system error of some variety. It's EXT3 and I just finished a fsck.ext3 -yf /dev/sdc1 which of course reported no errors. I did have to reboot the machine to get it to mount /dev/sdc1 as it was complaining that it was not a valid block device. It would appear...
