PVE backups to PBS and "pct fstrim"

SSH (or rsync etc.) times out between CTs belonging to different Proxmox 4 hosts
I have encountered a very strange networking behaviour with the latest 4.1 build of Proxmox and I'd like the Pros insight on this if possible. A (quick) little background first...
