Is it possible to hide the "virtual nature" of machine ???

This is possible. You can pass a UUID from a "real" server and define the MAC-Address from a real server. I did it with a Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server to bypass activation. Just edit your VMID.conf and add args: -uuid 3D094D56-E2CC-B318-C582-AFB2F2Exxxxxx from your real server. cheers mac

Hi, you couldn´t do it with backuppc. BackupPC has a deduplicating and pooling filesystem which can only be put to a different location, but only complete.

    Incremental Backups with some tool

    1) you need to install backuppc on an separate server and you need to configure the virtual machines access (rsync, smb, ssh) 2) you don´t need to backup with rsnapshot because backuppc is doing the versioning for you

High CPU use (18+%) by idle KVMs

Perhaps the new default ballooning enabled in 2.3 ? I noticed that myself. Also I noticed, that hte balloning service is not working on some 2003 machines. On 2k8 and 7 machines everything is ok.

Mounting LZO backup files as a read-only FS

That is possible. Restore Image to a different ID and add your restored HDD to your running VM (perhaps you need to shutedown and start again). Then simply copy the files you need.
