KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

Changed to noop and deadline (tried both), same exact issue. Performance at all VMs is at a near-standstill right now, with many soft-locking processes. Yikes. Virtual server has been unreachable via ssh for the last few minutes, though pingable. Interestingly, this does not happen when we...

KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

Context switches are 30-35k per second when backup has completed, so not much difference there.

KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

Also possibly useful: during backup, host is seeing 30-40k context switches per second. Will report back when backup is complete to note what it 'settles down' to.

    Redhat patch integrated into 2.6.32?

I believe the 2.6.32 kernel is based off Redhat sources, have the changes in this Redhat bug report been integrated: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645898 ? Thanks!

KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

More: getting lots of these on guests while backup is running (whether or not on the current guest): [698496.068018] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 67s! [zabbix_agentd:1092] [698535.653750] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 138s! [mysqld:2176]

KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

I've been watching our enviro (2.6.32-6 newest, core i7-870 (4x cores w/ HT, 8x 'cores' total) and 16GB DDR3, Adaptec HW raid w/ BBU) live tonight, here's some more info: -System load is low and i/o performance (tested w/ basic hdparm) is good on guest VM being backed up, and guests not being...

KVM machines very slow /unreachable during vmtar backup

OK, after a little more investigation - it seems that the local disk is maxed out at 100-120MB/s write and 100% activity (via iostat), while the array the lvm volume is on is at a similar read speed with 30-50% activity (it's much faster than the backup target disk). My question is - why would...

We are having this issue as well, but backup to a local disk.

    Adaptec 6405 support in 2.6.35?

My original question was whether 2.6.35 would get the 6405 driver. You answered that. If/when I get another kernel panic on our 2.6.32 test boxes, I will report it.

    Adaptec 6405 support in 2.6.35?

We're probably just doing something wrong, but we get a few kernel panics on our test machines in 2.6.32 that we don't in 2.6.35 - Various motherboards w/ i5-2500 CPUs and 16GB (4x4) DDR3 RAM.

    Adaptec 6405 support in 2.6.35?

Our arrays on Adaptec 6405 controllers are not being recognized in the latest Proxmox 1.9 2.6.35 kernel, but work perfectly fine in 2.6.32 (great performance, btw, compared to 2405 which we used before). Is there any way this driver could be added? We much prefer the 2.6.35 kernel. Thanks!

Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio nic

Re: Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio Tom - our testing infrastructure is pretty maxed right now, probably would not be able to do that for a few days on 2.6.32

Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio nic

Re: Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio Yeah, sorry, failed at that description. When I say inoperable, I mean I can barely use the VM. The console constantly misses keystrokes via vnc, the VM takes 10 minutes to boot, etc, etc. I haven't tested...

Ubuntu 10.04.2 KVM fresh install, inoperable w/ high events/1 usage due to virtio nic

After install (install process did not have the problem), guest system is barely responsive w/ "events/1" using lots of cpu in top. Removing virtio nic from the config and stopping/starting vm makes everything snappy. e1000 also makes everything snappy. Guest: Fresh Ubuntu 10.04.2 install...

    Windows 2003 Migration : BSOD 0x0000007B (0xF884EA98,0xC0000034,0x00000000

In addition to mergeide.reg, you'll need to add intelide.sys (or something like that) to the volume's /windows/system32 directory. At least I think that solved it for me... Google "mergeide.reg intelide.sys" and you should find something... There might be another file you need to add, too.

    Wild 2.0 ETA?

Certainly there's no planned release date (as in the wiki), but is there any guidance available, say in the next quarter or two?

    Grub

After installing Proxmox on a new PC (Core i5-760, H55, 16GB RAM, 1TB SATA boot, 4x1TB SATA on Adaptec 2405 for KVM VM logical volumes), it boots to the point where the word "GRUB" is displayed on the screen, but no further. No input at this "prompt" (not really a "prompt") does anything...

Feature request - Option for vzdump to only e-mail if any errors occur

Could you not conditionally e-mail if the script does not complete, or if a program run as part of a backup returns an error? Does that not cover all the bases?
