Hi,
I have put together the steps that work to get NTP with the Proxmox host as time server and a W2k8 DC as client up and running:
1. Run:
aptitude install ntp
or
apt-get install ntp
to install ntp packages. I don't know, if Proxmox has only ntpclient by default installed.
2. Configure...
Hello,
I have been able to setup the Proxmox host as time server in my environment. This seems to make sense because all VMs are running on this host and should be linked to its clock. After some difficulties in forcing the Windows SBS 2008 domain controller to accept the new time server (fyi...
Hello Wolfgang,
thank your for the feedback. Yes, Backup will increase the IO and the vzdump will catch a lot of CPU and IO cycles but there is much IO capacity left on the host. This can lead to performance issue but should never lead to time keeping issues. Loosing the local time result in...
Hello,
thank you for the answer. The central time server is drifting too and sync intervalls are effected by the drift. The other thing is that the systems get unresponsive as result of the drift. So the time drift is seen as the result of some kind of timer / ticker issue that effect the...
Hello everybody,
since a few days (from the personal feeling since the time I run the update process of the proxmox host) my Windows VMs experience bad time drifts when running vzdump (Proxomox backup job). The vm are are slowing down getting behind the host time. The drift is the much the st...
Hi,
a short update: Still no oom-killer issues with the new kernel. Seems that the problem is now solved. Thank you for your support.
Best greetings
Chris
Hi,
not rebooted yet. But I have not seen that the new kernel addresses oom-killer errors.
I have scheduled the reboot for tonight. Lets see whats happening.
Greetings
Chris
Hello Fabian,
after three days of testing I have discovered that according to your referenced posting both settings must be set to take any effect:
vm.swappiness = 1
vm.min_free_kbytes = 262144
Nevertheless tonight one VM was stopped by oom-killer:
Jan 7 05:50:00 pve1 kernel: [412142.839504]...
Hello, since applying the latest 4.4 - Updates I have the same problem here. 6 of 8 VM are killed during backup. Two, for what reason ever survive.
I do not have any idea what is happening. The logs do not show anything pointing to a problem....only seeing that oom-killer is triggered during...
Hello,
I am pretty existed about Proxmox and ZFS and finally the ZFS-Support within Proxmox. The lack of missing GUI integration (ZFS command have to be performed by command line, scheduled task like Scrub or status report have to be done by a separate agent) can be well handled by existing...
Hallo Dietmar,
Hi,
to complete this thread. Finally I reactivated the onboard Broadcom adapters and found again problems accessing the network. It seemed that the broadcom nic was pass through the i350 intel nic but additional testing showed that the network switch seemed to work not properly. Replacing the...
Hi Udo,
replaced the cabling and suddenly the nics work. Bad thing, I haven't though of a cable being the reason for all the troubles. To be honest, the cables were brand new...
I have reactivated the Broadcom onboard adapters. Maybe I am gonna give them a try the next days.
Thanks for the...
Hi Udo,
thanks for reply. I was thinking of replacing the cabling. I have already tested switching the two interfaces (back2back and LAN) and the back2back link always worked. According yours and kobukis feedback I will try using the Broadcom adapters.
Due to the fact that I am still abroad, I...
Hello Udo,
sorry for delay due to that Í am on vacation at the moment.
I removed the bridge only to reduce complexity for me at the moment. I know bridging is standard and works fine (usually).
Here is the output of the different files.
ifconfig -a:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr...
Hello Udo,
thank you for you reply. The onboard nics are disabled.
It will take a little to capture the information, especially as I have started to play with the network config (removed the bridge, added an ip-address to the second port of the i350,..) and I have to undo the changes or...
Hello Udo,
thanks for the reply, I tried to change eth0 interface to the other port but still no success. ifconfig shows eth0, lo venet0-00 and vmbr0. Interesting is that only one eth interface is shown but two are in the 70-persistent-net.rule file listed.
Any idea?
Greetings,
Chris
