I can confirm that Proxmox 5.1 with 4.13 kernel works on Dell R740 and H740p.
Not a single problem yet, running for 3 weeks.
Only problem is H740p supposed to be 8GB , but only show as 4GB in idrac. Might be later firmware upgrade, have I read.
I think most people do 10gbit fiber: SFP+.
According to Dell so is the 10 gbit copper to hot for the motherboards.
If that info helps you I don't know.
We use intel x520 SFP+ without problems.
We have intel 520 10 gbit on 3 of our dell servers. Running fine. Had some problem at first when i used 4xpciexpress. Should use 8x.

Confirmed. Installed R420 with H710 today. Only problem was that i needed disable UEFI boot and do normal bios boot.
24 cores and 4800 fsyncs. Great.

You are not alone. We have seen this also. We have cluster and same error every hour, same time. Cron?

As suggested by another user here, i tried http://www.OpenMediaVault.org/
It works perfect. Based on Debian Squeeze.
The R510 has H700 raidcard with 9 st 2TB disks, 8 in Raid6 + 1 hotspare, EXT3. (have also tested Raid10, but 8 disks in raid6 is pretty fast, still testing, and waiting for...
I have run 2100 for a year and it worked until 2 of 4 drives failed at same time. Now i dont trust Readynas. So i have built my own nas with more disks on a Dell R510 server instead. We had 10 servers mixed win + debian and was ok load on 2100. But its really too small for big virtual...
The reason why use Proxmox was also for vzdump, its nice to compress the backupfiles directly on the nas for transport to backup-system.
The Readynas we use today cant compress the raw or qcow2 files.
Thanks for input.
I know proxmox is for virtualization.
The server i have in mind has alot of memory and disk, so its just matter of finding the best stable solution. And what is more stable than Proxmox ?
File this under "future features" 3.0 :)
I will try OpenMediaVault instead, looks good...
Hi.
Is there possible to use pve2.0 distro as NAS with NFS instead of openfiler/freenas/squezze.
Its i nice gui and easy install. Do you see any problem with this? Can you setup eveything needed for nfs from gui?
My thinking is also that the nas can be member of cluster, and backup for some...
