Some thing have learned:
At the DC level, and options, make sure Input and Output policies are both set to ACCEPT. Otherwise when you enable the firewall at the DC level, you will get locked out of the GUI. (I think)
At the DC level enable the firewall, otherwise none of the firewall rules...
Proxmox 8.1.3 - So we have a firewall at the Datacenter, Node and VM level. I want to add a rule so that all VMs cannot access a computer (not on Proxmox) on a specific IP addresses. Do I need to add the DROP rule on each VM or can I put one DROP rule at the Node level?
On a firewall rule, if I...
So if the snapshots are stored in the qcow2 file, if I go crazy and create 100 snapshots (assuming lots of file activity in the OS), will the snapshots eventually fill up the qcow2 file and crash the OS? Or will the qcow2 file grow in size?
Yes, I know snapshots are not backups...:)
In VSphere/ESXi, snapshots continue to grow as more and most data is changes since the last snapshot. VMware documentations says to not keep snapshots around for more than 3-5 days. If you go too long, coalescing (merging) the snapshot into the...
I should have explained this is not a production system, but in my homelab which I use test how things work and to learn.
The 1 TB backup disk is a virtual disk hosted on on an NFS share on a separate TrueNAS box.
What I have learned so far:
PBS will try to back all virtual disks up...
I have PBS as a VM in my PVE cluster. The PBS VM has two drives: One for the OS and one for the the backups. When I define the backup schedule, I exclude the PBS VM itself so it does not try to backup the backup files, creating a loop.
Is this necessary? It there a better way to do this?
I've spent almost an entire day with no progress so I thought I would try here.
I have a VM in Proxmox VE 7.3-4 running pfSense 2.6.-RELEASE. That VM has two Linux Bridges assigned to it with the "WAN" being my regular network (192.168.1.0/24) and the LAN being a different bridge...
I'm sure this has a simple answer but it escapes me. I noticed my VMs were running slow and partially unresponsive. Once I have all of the VMs stopped, the memory usage graph showed this:
The PVE host has only been running 8 hours.
Once I rebooted it and with no VMs running, I get this:
How...
Concerning the first answer, thank you. I will start using a a range of VM IDs for each PVE.
Where do I see the namespace and how do I make it unique?
All of my backups are stored under /mnt/datastore/1TB/vm with no differentiation between PVE hosts on the PBS server.
Q1: I create/destroy a lot of VMs. Therefore I reuse the automatically created ID numbers. Since PBS uses the VM ID numbers to store the backups under /mnt/datastore/1TB/vm, will this confuse PBS considering it uses "incremental backups, deduplication" methods?
Q2: If I have multiple PVE...
Enabling a single CHAP username and password/secret): https://castinganet.net/posts/Proxmox-iSCSI-Add/
I found one reference that says you can supply the username/password when you do Datacenter->Storage->Add->iSCSI but I do not have the fields for it.
