    Ceph or Gluster ?

Even with Gluster support in Qemu, aren't they qcow2 images that are stored on the FS ? If so, couldn't Gluster storage benefit from these formats capabilities ? Bests

VMA archive restore outside of Proxmox

Hi, After reading the (sparse) documentation in the wiki and in repository as well as a couple of threads here in there forum, a couple of thrilling questions raised in my mind: Is it possible and how do you restore VMA archives outside, I mean without, a recent PVE install ? Is there a...

"ERROR: can't do online migration - VM uses local disks" on shared storage

In this case it detects a non existing cdrom with a faulty size remaining from the last used ISO image (the virtio one for instance), and a dummy file image just aimed at loading VirtIO drivers on new W$ installs. In both cases, once the job done, I don't want to delete neither the CD ISO...

Physical server to Proxmox VE (KVM) using Clonezilla Live CDs

Hi, Few days ago I had very hard times virtualizing a W2003 installation. After trying all my best with FOSS tools, I was advised by co-workers to give ShadowProtect a try... which revealed as a life saver ! As a deep hard FOSS advocate, I sadly have to admit that this tool, and specificaly its...

"ERROR: can't do online migration - VM uses local disks" on shared storage

Yes I did ! Aren't we supposed to do so ? As I understood it pmxcfs is a fuse FS above some kind of distributed SQLite DB (but chances are I completly misunderstood !)... so I though there could be situations where FS view/files content could be out of sync with internal/underlying DB content...

"ERROR: can't do online migration - VM uses local disks" on shared storage

Hi Udo, Why is that unflexible ? In which case(s) ? With this setup, storage space allocation between VMs of each node is carved in stone. How do you handle the case where you initially allocated 50/50 and you later have a VM requiring more storage space than others putting you in need of a...

"ERROR: can't do online migration - VM uses local disks" on shared storage

Hi, Slowly building my first production PVE HA cluster (2 node), I solved all the troubles I faced up to now (and learned _a_lot_ on this road !) but I'm breaking my teeth on the last I'm struggling with :'( Nodes (pve01 and pve02, HP ML350, up to date PVE 2.2), network (2xGbEth...

Survey: Do you use KVM or OpenVZ, or both?

I'm happily using KVM only and hope OpenVZ will someday be replaced by LXC and bring us all the goodness of recent kernels... Keep on the good work, and thank you very much for all !

KVM - Mac OSX as Guest

Do you have any reference for this ??? This seems _really_ surprising to me ! Thanks in advance.

Suggestion: Add a Cloning tab in Proxmox VE beside the migration tab. Please?

I've bookmarked libguestfs for this kind of tasks. It seems to have powerful tools to work with VM images, and even some specifically with W$ ones. But still haven't had the occasion to play with it. Hope it helps

Ceph and file storage backend capabilities

Hi, Sadly haven't had time to build my lab yet but GlusterFS is my first choice ATM for VM and data storage. Enlightening readings have lately convinced me that file storage was the way to go for VHDs (at least in my use cases: SME). GlusterFS seems definitively the most scalable AND easy to...

    Installing on USB stick

hi, Thank you for the tip ! Actually, I finally managed to install PVE on USB stick but going the Debian way... to discover that the PNY key was just a damned piece of sh!ù$* to the point that I couldn't make an upgrade without write errors :-( I have now to buy (again) a handful of sticks so...

    PXE Network Booting

ah yes ! Just have to set boot device to "network" ?! So I just have to see which of FAI/Cobbler/... would be the most nicely integrated with PVE... Thx Dietmar

    PXE Network Booting

With v2.0 coming with PXE and standard install based on debian... I'm hardly waiting to see massive deployement scenarios using FAI or other similar toys... On PXE side, it would be cool too if one could set a VM to boot with PXE. This would allow similar provisionning funkiness. Keep on the...

    Raid Array Shared

Hi, IIUC, the array hosts files to be consumed by applications or users, not de VM images. To give simultaneous access to these files, you can either use: * Network file sharing: NFS, CIFS/Samba like suggested tom * Clustered, shared Filesystem: OCFS2 (ggl for ocfs2+tutorial returns...

Proxmox VE 2.x - firewall option

Hi, This is nice to know that firewall is still on the roadmap, even after 2.0... Why not adding an additional "Long term" or "Future ideas" paragraph on the roadmap page ? This may keep us teased and may be avoid repeated Q&As. Bests
