Will PBS work for me if my VMs are encrypted?
Also, is PVE always writing to disk and causing wear, or does it just write the normal amount (as any OS)? My SSD seems to be dying but it has had a seemingly short life considering it was always running a server OS or Hypervisor, neither with much...
Hello all,
A (hopefully) quick question here… If I have Proxmox setup with my VMs on a separate SSD, and things go wrong to the point of having to reinstall, would reading the VMs be as easy as selecting them from the SSD?
Thanks
Interesting, I will give it a go later, thanks. I usually compile in a secondary test setup of Proxmox. My Docker setup needs an overhaul (and moving to a bigger disk) :p
Are the edits only for the Docker compile? I get this error if I try to compile myself:
Step 3.0: Applying patches
cp: cannot stat '../../patches/add-relaxable-rmrr-5_11.patch': No such file or directory
Hi @FelixCLC How can I get the script to compile a working 5.11.x kernel? I can run the script and it completes, but it builds the last version of 5.4 as that is what is hard-coded in. I tried making a few edits but no joy. I see you are active on GitHub and have also contributed, so please help...
Is a Managed switch needed to use the VLAN feature in Proxmox?
Is there a significant benefit to having a VLAN for VMs and Containers (including Docker, Turnkey) on a home network with more than a dozen devices?
I understand that, I’m more concerned about it making the encryption more transparent. If I use discard with LVM will this still be the case, and do I still need to unlock with —allow discards?
I don’t use zfs but still notice drive space isn’t being reclaimed after deleting virtual disks. I detached then deleted but the space is still taken. What can I do to recover this space?
Sorry, thanks for being patient with my n00bery, it was my own fault looking in the wrong place lol, it was working all along as first thought. The drive was showing as full but I erased and started again and all is well.
Yes, the issue is it does not appear as an option when creating a new VM (or anything else). Do I need to set a path or file system or something? I never had this issue in the past when not using encrypted disk unless I formatted the disk first…
I think I spoke too soon. These steps work and I can add the volume but when it comes to creating a new VM I cannot select this as a storage option. Only ‘local’ is appearing…
Could we not use lvthin without the allow discards flag? Wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?
Is LVM-Thin the default now? All the VMs I have created in the past have been on LVM storage and I like that it allocates the full disk size at the start. I see that it does not support snapshots...
