If we have compiled a patched kernel and it’s working as expected, if we need to reinstall the system is there a way of taking/backing up this patched kernel and using it on a fresh install without having to go through the whole patch process again? Would this be as simple as dropping the kernel...
This is very interesting...that Level1techs thread is a good read, still going through it. I did consider Debian/KVM/Libvirt but thought it may be too much to learn at this stage, and figured Proxmox would be lighter (maybe not so!) as it wouldn’t have all the default stuff that comes with...
In step 1 of the kernel patching process we install all the following packages:
apt-get install git nano screen patch fakeroot build-essential devscripts libncurses5 libncurses5-dev libssl-dev bc flex bison libelf-dev libaudit-dev libgtk2.0-dev libperl-dev asciidoc xmlto gnupg gnupg2 rsync...
When trying to patch a kernel an error message always comes up saying root partition is out of space. Is there a way to safely recover space by clearing any unneeded files? Up until now I have always deleted the default lvm and extended the root partition but I’m wondering if there is a more...
I really hope you can get this working. Nothing I have tried has worked and I do see tons of threads on here regarding the issue, but again my Linux knowledge is very limited.
Gosh I hope u are right! I have done it on mine and it worked only after patching an older version of the kernel. The latest still doesn’t work as some stuff has moved to and from the kernel and I’m not experienced enough with Linux to work it all out. I had never got passthrough working before...
Interested to hear about the results of this! I feel like I have come across this before and no joy, but let us know if it works for you. The kernel seems to have an effect on the ability to passthrough as it’s the only part changed when it works or not. MicroServer Gen8 seems to have different...
This worked and I was able to pass it through, but when I click on one of the disks in ‘Files’ I receive the following error message:
How do I fix this?
Hello all,
I can’t seem to find the answer to this so I will ask here. Does connecting drives via USB (in a multi-drive device) affect the ability to get S.M.A.R.T data from the drives? Does it depend on the device?
I want to know if I would be able to attach a non-RAID enclosure and still...
