ZFS is not necessarily faster than a HW raid. ZFS is an awesome SW raid. It is very flexible, reliable, fast, and allows exporting and importing. It allows a lot of features that HW raid doesn't.
It could be whether you make a raid 1 then 0 or 0 then 1.
From what I've read, it would be...
Hello,
I thought that I was going about this right, but I didn't.
I need to do this...
I have a 2-way mirror boot ZFS pool, rpool. Both disks are detaching and need replaced. I ordered 2 new disks to replace these (then I'll use the RMA'd disks elsewhere).
The new disk is /dev/sde
I want...
I'm a 10-year veteran/n00b with *nix in general. I am also a bit of a n00b with ProxMox and ZFS. So far I like them both.
I have a similar 2 SSD and 2 HDD setup for my first second first real test box. I installed 4.0 on the SSD formatting it as ZFS to start with. Then, only the SSD's show...
Thanks.
So... I have an ova/ovf/vmdk... I want to put that into Proxmox. I found out how to do it with converting it to a qcow2, creating the VM, then moving the new qcow2 to overwrite the default one... How do I do it with a Zvol? I'm guessing convert to raw, then dd it to the zvol?
Any...
fdisk -l is odd. It gives me the physical sector boundary issue for some of the ram disks. That makes no sense.
I've read that there's a bug in fdisk's reporting.
Since not every VM/CT will use the CPU all the time, you can "oversubscribe" by quite a bit. Keep an eye on the status monitors to see if you are reaching 100% cpu utilization across all machines. If so, then, you'll have slowdown.
As for RAM, VMs can be set to dynamically...
Do you need to use gdisk to create the first partitions on the disks or just to show the virtual ones?
My physical disks are good and aligned.
However, fdisk -l shows things like this:
Disk /dev/ram9: 64 MiB, 67108864 bytes, 131072 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Partition 3 does...
I believe that you don't NEED tons of ram for ZFS, you just WANT tons of ram for ZFS ( or any ram cache).
ZFS is also happy to have a min and max ARC/ram cache set.
ZFS is also happy with non ECC, however, any file system that you really, really care about should use ECC (there is nothing...
A 2-node cluster is possible. I have 2-nodes in my test/demo/home/play cluster. Non-HA.
Both of mine are in the same subnet.
Can each node ping the other?
I have no idea if FQDN Reverse Lookup is required. I set up Reverse DNS right before I setup these 2 nodes, and I did the pvecm...
Following up from this... My physical drives are aligned and happy. But, I get notes like this for VM disks. How do I fix that? Do I need to fix that? Is it just a bug in fdisk?
gdisk -l shows:
Ok, Thanks.
In DataCenter, Storage, Add, ZFS, the only pool shown is /rpool and it's subs. My other ZFS pool didn't appear.
I tried this and got an error:
root@pve2:~# pvesm add zfs -type zfspool -pool z3tred
400 not enough arguments
root@pve2:~# pvesm add zfs z3tered -type zfspool --pool...
I've got a zfs mirror SSD set for boot, but another ZFS HDD mirror that I want to put basically everything on. I get the error "failed: exit code 144" and can't make a container or a VM disk image, "failed: exit code 1".
Thanks in advance.
root@pve2:/# zpool list

Oh, I see. I just considered that part of the system, rather than something that I needed to add as a plugin, like Firefox and Chrome plugins must be downloaded and plugged in separately.
