Proxmox VE management GUI doing a fair amount of writing to disk

I wonder if this is exclusive to Proxmox, or whether you're going to see the same or similar results with other Hypervisor systems whilst the GUI is open. I'd be interested to hear if your other experiments increase disk access.

Cannot start VM missing strange item...

I'm not going to watch the 30 minute video :) but as part of the process of enabling IOMMU, you needed to have done a restart (as per the guide at https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Pci_passthrough) before the GPU can essentially be handed over to the client. Presumably you followed this guide and...

Cannot start VM missing strange item...

Did you follow https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Pci_passthrough paying special attention to the "blacklist" section. Im not sure if you need to install the GPU drives on the host as your'e not going to be using it there anyway.

Cannot start VM missing strange item...

Did you clone the VM that had sole access to the GPU and is that running at all? Can you confirm that the host isn't using the GPU by seeing whether theres any output to your monitor attached to the GPU? I've got my rig setup with Proxmox host using the mobo iGPU which is plugged into the HDM...

Cannot start VM missing strange item...

It looks like you're trying to pass through a PCI device to your VM. If so, could it have already been used by the host and therefore not available to the client VM? What is the device you're trying to pass through?

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

Is the increase in latency a side effect of the way that QEMU handles the USB ports or would this have happened anyway with the same hub plugged into a Windows 10 host? I'm assuming that there's always going to be shared bandwidth and likely latency when using a USB hub anyway, no matter how...

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

I guess its off topic but is that a standard for USB hubs (ie. max 4 ports x 2)?

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

I appreciate you looking. I found another thread here: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/increase-maximum-usb-devices-in-vm-conf.26551/page-2 that covers the same thing and seems to work. Whether its stable is another matter and of course as per my post on the other thread, the GUI doesn't...

Increase maximum USB devices in vm.conf

Im a bit late to the party on this one, but im running PVE 6.4.x and have assigned 9 USB devices after adjusting the /usr/share/perl5/PVE/QemuServer.pm file as follows: my $MAX_USB_DEVICES = 12; The VM seems to see all the USB devices, but the PVE GUI only reports the first 5. I presume that...

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

    So I assumed that simply adding the following the the .conf file would work: usb0: host=1-9.1,usb3=1 usb1: host=1-9.2,usb3=1 usb2: host=1-3.1.1,usb3=1 usb3: host=1-3.1.2,usb3=1 usb4: host=1-3.1.3,usb3=1 usb5: host=1-3.1.4,usb3=1 usb6: host=1-3.2,usb3=1 usb7: host=1-3.3,usb3=1 usb8...

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

Im being a plonker and you mentioning using an easily identifiable device helped. I mistakenly mixed up a TONOR USB mic for another equally obscure brand that was indeed plugged into the mobo. Mystery solved... The ports assigned to the USB hub are not completely sequential (some using the...

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

Thats useful as I'm going to set up a second WIndows 10 VM with a second dedicated GPU and another identical USB hub. This will allow me to adjust the .conf file accordingly to add all the available ports. Looking at the list of USB devices I think I can identify the ones associated with the...

    1st cluster creation

Whilst this is not a direct answer to your question, you can run 2 or more VMs within Proxmox, each running proxmox. From there you can test things like installing ifupdown on your virtualised cluster, change IP addresses and see how its affected. As your'e virtualising a cluster, you can also...

    [SOLVED] Limit for USB devices

I've recently installed Windows 10 as a VM and enabled GPU passthru along with some USB devices such as mouse & keyboard. 1. Is there a way to dedicate a specific USB port on my mobo to the VM? For example if I have a USB hub plugged into the mobo which has 7 ports, or do I need to allocate...

Thank you. I will take a look.

    Proxmox and swap partition

Is it possible to monitor a VM to see when the OOM kicks in so that I can make a decision on how much RAM/SWAP should be used?

    Proxmox and swap partition

Is there a reason why the default install of Proxmox VE doesn't allocate it's own swap partition? If not, should I be providing my VMs with access to swap space and if so, should I be providing this swap space on SSDs or HDDs?

PBS backups slow from a specific Proxmox server

I have 3 Proxmox servers which are NOT configured as a cluster, and a PBS. All 4 have access to the 10.0.0.0 network where backup traffic is send. All 4 have 1gbit cards for the 10.0.0.0 network and running iperf across them confirms that im getting around 1gbps. 2 of the Proxmox servers...

    [SOLVED] PBS firewall control

Ok... I think Ive solved it and this may be useful for other users who have web facing PBS (whether they should be web facing is for another time). Heres my IPTABLES that allows SSH and 8007 only for my IP address and on the ETH1 device. Chain INPUT (policy DROP 0 packets, 0 bytes) num pkts...

    [SOLVED] PBS firewall control

More specifically, I can reach the login screen but the login credentials no longer seem to work unless I change the default policy on INPUT to ACCEPT.
