    Best kernel for KVM only?

I think I just got confused reading the output of aptitude search. I see things like ' pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve', which is what I have installed, but there are other not-installed packages like ' linux-image-2.6-amd64'. I thought maybe those were non-pve kernels, I guess not.

    Best kernel for KVM only?

Okay. On the other hand, the repository has kernel images that are not pve. Those have no guarantees then? I suppose if not, I will just stay on the 32 kernel...

    Best kernel for KVM only?

As some may remember I had a problem trying to get asterisk dahdi driver working under the host node (the driver would panic.) Sangoma told me it was likely due to the openvz patched kernel. For various other reasons, I am only running KVM now anyway, so which is the best kernel for that...

Top not accurately reporting inside VM.

    Is this an container or a KVM? I am running ubuntu 10.10 as a KVM and no problems: top - 09:53:38 up 2:14, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.05 Tasks: 105 total, 1 running, 104 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 0.0%us, 0.0%sy, 0.0%ni,100.0%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si...

    vzdump optimization idea?

Ah, I see the confusion. Sorry, I wasn't clear. Clonezilla is a booting distro, so I didn't mean to use it. What I meant was: use the tools it uses (for example, partclone, which is documented at partclone.org)

Yeah, for a running VM, true. If it isn't you could...

installing Win 2008 Server R2 on Proxmox

Oh weird, I never knew that. Well, doubt that is it.

installing Win 2008 Server R2 on Proxmox

I don't understand. AFAIK, proxmox will not create a vmdk - either a raw or qcow2 or whatever, so where did the vmdk file come from?

installing Win 2008 Server R2 on Proxmox

vmdk? is this an imported vmware disk? ide for the HD sounds fine.

installing Win 2008 Server R2 on Proxmox

Have you tried resetting the VM? I've had that happen with windows xp once or twice, and after a reset it came back fine.

    DHCP server

If you have a decent power box you can use, I highly recommend astaro security gateway. The basic package is free for business. I use the free (50 hosts or less) full version for my soho setup. DHCP, DNS, web virus and malware filtering (ditto for email), etc... You don't need to use all of...

KVM network performance: latency vs throughput, do I have to decide?

True, but most guests have only one NIC. Or would the udev stuff leave a stale and dead eth0 and give the guest eth1? I have to admit I don't know the udev stuff as well as I'd like...

KVM network performance: latency vs throughput, do I have to decide?

Well, that is only necessary if you don't want to wait 10 minutes or so for ARP caches to expire... Or if host has a static dhcp lease, no?

    DHCP server

What is your WISP using for a gateway? If that is a decent power box, it is fairly common to have it run the dns and dhcp too...

    DHCP server

You type this in a root shell on the proxmox. That said, if the WISP has any significant number of customers, you should not be running essential services like this on your hypervisor box.

Lost KVM after upgrade to 1.7

Might it be easier at this point to just reinstall with 1.7 and then restore your VMs?
