Then the solution is:
Setup the Proxmox/Ceph cluster to make backups over the remote PBS, the one with less disk space.
In the remote PBS keep only the last 15 snapshots.
Setup a sync job in the local PBS for sync the datastore from the remote PBS.
In the local PBS setup the prune policy for...
It is possible to program checks that analyze the Proxmox nodes load and live migrate VMs, but I agree that it would be better if this feature were available in the virtual environment like other virtualization solutions do.
I don't understand ...
When I enable in my local PBS a sync of a datastore over the remote PBS, all the content of the local datastore will be synced to the remote one, ¿is it correct?
But if the remote one doesn't has enough disk space, then the sync will fail, ¿correct?
Another scenario...
This is not possible because local PBS has more used disk space in the datastore than space disk available in the remote one. Then, it is not possible to make a full sync of the local datastore over the remote one and then prune it.
Moreover, it is not very efficient ... imagine that we have...
No, if you have enough disk space in the Proxmox Server, install PBS on it (you can have Proxmox and PBS installed in the same host) and make the backups over the server disks and then make a sync job over the remote PBS.
The problem is that in the remote PBS I have less space for copies.
Is it possible to sync only the last 15 backups from the local PBS to the remote one ?
Hi,
PBS is very intensive in I/O, specially in tasks like the garbage collector (GC). This can lead to very log run cycles for the GC in the future.
Maybe another option can be use PBS as a VM to take advantage of the better I/O of your server and rsync the datastore directory to you USB drive...
Proxmox allows the creation of restricted users with access to only one virtual machine.
Maybe you can achieve what you want to do easily using this and publishing access to the Proxmox UI.
You have to segment your network for isolate virtual machines sets.
You have to connect your firewall to all your network segments and define the necessary firewall policy for allow only the required traffic between networks and block the rest.
It is not necessary to create a Proxmox bridge for...
You can use Ceph as a distributed file system for your 12 servers. This way you can create a great Proxmox/Ceph cluster with high availability and great fault tolerancy.
Hi,
I have a Proxmox/Ceph cluster and two PBS systems, one local and the other one in a remote data center.
The local PBS is bigger, it has enough disk space for keep lot of backups of the virtual machines. In this one I have the next prune policy:
Keep last: 30
Keep weekly: 24
Keep monthly: 12...
