I know it has been a while since this thread was active. However, are you saying that with this adapter, ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter, Proxmox just worked without editing any of the /etc config files?
Realizing that Proxmox is not a desktop, I could foresee wanting to keep windows intact and being able to create and use a "bare metal" hypervisor for other operating systems. This should in theory be possible correct?

I think you are misunderstanding my question. I am not asking about a subscription. I asked whether Proxmox is any speedier than using Virtualization (VMWare, Parallels, etc) on a machine with an OS such as Mac or Windows?
Can anyone tell if running a virtual machine via Proxmox from a dedicated machine is substantially faster or better than using virtualization software like VM Ware, Parallels, Virtual Box, etc? Thanks!
