Hello everyone

I am planning on doing a update from 8.4 to 9 on four of our nodes. They are all currently updated to 8.4.1 and ceph is updated to 18.2.7. I read through the official documentation and watched/read guides I think I am ready. I just wanted to drop a post here just in case anyone had any extra thoughts or opinions.

Thank you

Hi,

all should be good with official update guide.
Just update the nodes one by one.

You must upgrade first to latest 8.4 (think it's 8.14.17 at time of writing) and Ceph 19.2.3 (Ceph Reef isn't supported in PVE9). It's clearly stated in the upgrade docs [1]. The Ceph upgrade docs are here [2].

Once you are in latest 8.4.x, and before upgrading to PVE9, I suggest you pin the nic's using pve-network-interface-pin generate (check "overriding network device names" [2]) to avoid the new kernel to rename your nic's and forcing you to manually adapt the network configuration from the server's console.

If you are unfamiliar with the upgrade procedure I strongly suggest you to practice using a nested PVE cluster and review a dozen times the upgrade documentation.
