Yes, same problem here - I will switch to Postfix on my next installation of PVE. Having said that, it would be nice to fix the double email with ssmtp bug but honesty, life is too short and I've got used to it now :-)
OK, I found out that a User was logged in and running a foreground app when the backup was happening. I have changed this so that no User is logged in and will wait to see if that fixes the timeout issue on the next scheduled backup.
Thanks. That looks like it might be the solution, but I do not know how to 'change' or 'check' to see which ACPI HAL I have in my Windows 7 Pro VM....?!
I now get this regularly on a Windows 7 Pro VM...
command 'qm shutdown 109 --skiplock --keepActive --timeout 600' failed: exit code 255
TASK ERROR: VM quit/powerdown failed - got timeout
...any ideas what this means?
I have the Qemu Agent running in Windows and VirtIO Drivers installed.
If I...
I have looked and exported the System and Applications Evens, but do not know how to analyse them. There are lots of Event IDs etc. Is there a nice easy Event Log Analyser available?
A Windows 7 Pro VM running on PVE 3.4 keeps crashing at random times of the day, but about once a week.
It will not respond to a PVE shutdown command, and sometimes not respond to a stop.
Worst case scenario, I have to SSH in, unlock it, stop and start.
What can I use in Windows or in the PVE...
Thanks.
Actually, why I had to do (in PVE 3.4) is to run the command line...
qm set VMID -agent 1
...then reboot Windows, then...
Control Panel > System > Device Manager > PCI Communication Device > Add Driver
...then reboot Windows, then...
Browse to CD > Qemu-Agent > Install .msi...
OK, I will sort out DHCP for the 2 cards, but it has to be said "that is a bit crap of Windows"...
...when I do a driver update in Linux it doesn't change the MAC address or settings or have any problem at all.
Why, Microsoft, why?!
(sigh)
How do I add the Guest Agent to a Windows 7 Pro VM?
Do I have to add a 'serial port' or just install the VirtIO Serial driver from the VirtIO Drivers CD and reboot?
OK, for the network card driver, what happens if Windows 'loses' the settings for 2 x cards after updating the driver?
This happened last time I tried an update, and the system is crucial to the network.
Should it keep it's IP address, domain network type, and card settings after the update?
Ah, got it, thank you.
So, I upgrade my current 3.4.x to the latest 3.4.x with...
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
reboot
Check my version numbers and then remove the old kernel with...
apt-get remove pve-kernel-2.6.X
...where X is not the latest one I am actually running.
yes?
Paully
Fantastic! Thank you!
This answers so much and will probably fix my problem with the Win7 VM not being backed up because it errors each time.
@proxmox - can you please add the Qemu Agent to the Windows 7 Guest Best Practices page?!
Paully
