I was doing audit when found some files missing in original Proxmox 5.1.2 install

I can assure you I run NO LXC at all, only VMs and was getting same error. Lately I have made latest update and restarted the host. First backup went ok, so waiting next one today to ensure the issue is gone.
I am an update junkie, always on the edge.
proxmox-ve: 5.1-42 (running kernel: 4.13.16-2-pve)
pve-manager: 5.1-51 (running version: 5.1-51/96be5354)
qemu-server: 5.0-25
Just rebooted, will see what is going to happen on next programmed backup. Manual was never an issue.

I have bought it 1 month ago. Daily SMART checks indicate no issues whatsoever. Why I shall think its in the end of life ? Even if we consider this is the case, why do I get errors exceptionally during backup of this particular VM?

Every time I start backup of my VM which is above 100GB I get a SMART error notification, which finally does not affect actual backup procedure, neither further operation of PROXMOX or VMs. However when I do small backup below 20GB I get no issues at all.
