[SOLVED] use smtp to send ALL notifications

Guys, I came across this topic as it seems I have exact same situation. I have a small cluster of two nodes, I have setup the smtp notification to use my local smtp server on port 25, the matche is tet pretty much default to match all. Then there is a backup job running on both nodes and I get...

    PBS backup email notification incomplete

You are absolutely right! I did not look at it from this angle :( - my bad - I did not expect the log file ON THE SERVER has some extra lines compared to a logic set by email - namely the following: INFO: starting new backup job: vzdump 210 2850 111 112 500 501 700 110 2810 --fleecing 0...

    PBS backup email notification incomplete

Dear community, not that this is a problem that would affect the Proxmox environment reliability, but more an observation I made in past few weeks/months. Running Proxmox 8.2.7 and PBS 3.2.7 with several backup jobs running daily to backup all VMs and CTs to external storage, email notifications...

Proxmox 5.2 on HP DL380 G9 with P440ar and SAS drives - final recommendation?

A lot of time passed :) but stil those servers are in use, now with proxmox 8. And i have 6 such servers - G7-G9 running… so far so good. The answer is rather simple. For one server - the main one - i got HBA controller and replaced the delivered hw raid. But for all others i was not able to do...

Use case: Better understanding how ARC, SWAP and RAM usage is expected to behave

Hi everyone, just sharing my experience, in case someone else goes the same path. I have disabled the SWAP and then removed the ZRAM entirely. Perhaps an obvious thing for gurus, but I had to dig into this a bit deeper as the Proxmox server was installed 5 years back and at that time the ram was...

Use case: Better understanding how ARC, SWAP and RAM usage is expected to behave

P:S. When the SWAP is disabled completly, do I suppose correctly that the swapiness level plays no role or shall it also be set to 0 just to make sure the system does not expect the swapping as a backup plan?

Use case: Better understanding how ARC, SWAP and RAM usage is expected to behave

Thanks Dunuin, now when I read your first sentence loud it makes more sense. I setup ZRAM as SWAP in order to allow the system to have fast swapping available when it runs out of RAM, but I actually took the RAM for this purpose so I basically just take part of my precious RAM and serve it as a...

Use case: Better understanding how ARC, SWAP and RAM usage is expected to behave

Thansk Aaron for reply. I do follow your explanations and they make sense to me. I can try to disable the L2ARC, although I am a bit of a amateur so I want to make sure that I dont screw the server up by disabling it. The server is several hundreds of KM from me so it can be a nightmare for me...

Some Windows Server generates way too much dirty backups

I will certainly give a try as if this works, you saved a kitten! Sorry for my previous negative feedback, but I just feel that every day I find some bad Windows surprise so I am about to give up the fight, but this procedure, if found working will be a live saver! I will report in a few days...

Use case: Better understanding how ARC, SWAP and RAM usage is expected to behave

Dear proxmox gurus! first please accept my deep respect as the solution is absolutely amazing. I do use it for a non-profit organization to help them cope with their IT on an affordable way. It is running for 5+ years and I am on version 6.4-13 at the moment, planning to go to 7 by xmas. When in...

Some Windows Server generates way too much dirty backups

Hi, I gave up on windows totally, this simply is a virus in IT world. So most severs are linux and those two ADs are accepted as necessary evil. The schedule is done so that it does not interfere with users working (due to performance drop during backups). Same like updates in Windows servers -...

Some Windows Server generates way too much dirty backups

Thanks, also a valid opinion. Didnt find any scheduled regularly running defrag task. Although the task exist, it does not have any activation. and it was last run a week ago, which would not match with daily "dirty backups"

Some Windows Server generates way too much dirty backups

Seems a valid opinion to me. I searched for something related to this topic and found basically only one thing - an example here: https://support.purestorage.com/Solutions/Microsoft_Platform_Guide/sss_Windows_Server_Features_and_Integrations/Windows_Space_Reclamation I have compared all my...
