Workaround for core watchdog issue on ASRock X670E motherboards

Yes, that was indeed the correct solution and my system is now a rock.

    Problem after updating kernel

Ah you clever Proxmox developers, keeping the rest of us on our toes by quietly and secretly overwriting configuration files! If your updates are breaking with something like: run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/kdump-tools 6.8.12-8-pve /boot/vmlinuz-6.8.12-8-pve kdump-tools...

Workaround for core watchdog issue on ASRock X670E motherboards

Here are some breadcrumbs for anyone debugging random reboot issues on Proxmox 8.3.1 or later. tl:dr; If you're experiencing random unpredictable reboots on a Proxmox rig, try DISABLING (not leaving at Auto) your Core Watchdog Timer in the BIOS. I have built a Proxmox 8.3 rig with the...

New Import Wizard Available for Migrating VMware ESXi Based Virtual Machines

This is a great start. Migrating out of VMware and other virtual machine types is probably the greatest source of friction for adoption of Proxmox. In the future, I hope to see more tools and an even more automated process for moving over hundreds or thousands of VMs from VMware.

[TUTORIAL] Migration out of AWS EC2 into Proxmox

Amazon is attempting to lock in their customers into their EC2 offering. I'm going to show you one way how to break that lock-in. Amazon purposely makes it as difficult as possible to migrate virtual machines off of EC2 and onto other formats. AWS REQUIRES that you invoke their command-line...

How to migrate 500 VMs from VMWare to Proxmox, with as little downtime as possible

Personally, I think your best bet is probably to configure Proxmox to read and write your current vmdk files directly. It's kind of an icky solution, because qcow2 is a superior format, but technically you can add vmdk format disks to your virtual machines in Proxmox. Where are you storing all...

    iotop

Dear Proxmox, Proxmox is great and I love it. There are plenty of ways to monitor the performance of your Proxmox install. Personally, I have found that iotop is tremendously useful in finding VMs that are hogging the CPU or the I/O subsystems. You may wish to consider making iotop part of...

    Proxmox tip jar

I'm using the free version, and after some transition pain, it's working well for me as an ESXi replacement. Proxmox, you might consider this beneath your dignity, but you might want to set out a "pay what you can" license, for the currently free version. For those of us who don't currently...
