We have installed Proxmox on a new blank server. We can reach the server vi iLo but not to the vm directly.
Switch ports are in the correct vlan. but nothing back in ping in or out.
I am suspecting that nic0 is up but does not have an IP address.
vmbr0 contains the ip address we are trying to connect to.
Can anyone confirm and propose a resolution?

we just installed the server application. Have not been able to access the Proxmox host.
IP -a
lo loopback
Nic0: interface is up no ip address
vmbr0: interface is up IP 172.20.15.1/16 gw = 172.20.0.1

have not been able to ping any system on same vlan. Note no Firewall issues in same vnet.
Have not been able to ping or test network connection to the proxmox host
response to qm config [vmid]
400 parameter verification failed
vmid: type check ('integer') failed got - '[vmid]'
qm config [vmid] [OPTIONS]

Is nic0 suppose to have an ip address?

I would recommend putting the virtualization (VM) portion aside for now. You have basic Linux network management issue.

The NIC0, if it is the underlying NIC for the vmbr0, does not need an IP address in most basic configuration.
However, we do not know what your infrastructure looks like. Is 172.20.0.x/16 generally available, or is it a dedicated subnet/vlan for VMs?

The [vmid] is a placeholder, you are supposed to replace [vmid] with actual VM ID, ie 100. But as I mentioned - thats not where you should concentrate your attention.

Do you have a network administrator in your organization you can involve in this? Or an experienced Linux Administrator? PVE uses Debian Linux as the underlying OS. The network setup is just basic Linux.

Thank you so far.
the VLAN is dedicated to 172.20.0.0/16 and is avail as we have many other systems on that vlan.
nic0 did not obtain an IP address when we installed proxmox. the IP address entered went to vmbr0.
I am not totally savy on linix, mainly windows.
Do I need to configure up an additional IP address for Nic0, which I can do.
Not sure why it was not configured when installing proxmox.
