Ive seen a bunch of posts from this site from other people having trouble installing proxmox and i swear ive followed all of them correctly but it just wont work, so if any of y'all have half an hour lmk so i can add yall on discord and help talk me through it pls

probably should have been more specific, that's my bad, im having issues with the internet settings in the startup which the tutorials i have seen all gloss over that part and effectively say "figure it out yourself"

To which network is your Proxmox VE node connected to?
Is there a router in this network for e. g. connections to the internet?

Ohh ok
Could you elaborate on what you mean by network
Is that like service provider, ipv4, default gateway or something else?

That doesn't tell me what im looking for
If you have a residential setup: Use the IP address of your router as gateway and DNS. Chose an IP address for Proxmox that is outside the DHCP-range of your router (but valid and within the local subnet). Make sure the Proxmox host is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable (as Proxmox does not support WiFi).

Thank you for taking the time to explain

I dont have a ethernet cable currently but i will look in to getting one soon

As for the hostname (FQND) field ive heard you need to own a domain for that but ive also heard that if you set it as a domain that doesn't exist it should work fine.
Should i look into getting a domain or should I leave it set as a domain that doesn't exist

That explained the problems you have before when trying to connect to your newly installed Proxmox.

No need to buy/rent a domain name. Try not to use something that could (in the future) exists and use something intended for local domains like myfirstpve.local : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.local

EDIT: Maybe .local is not a good idea (according to post #16). Maybe use myfirstpve.home.arpa as suggested by post #18.
