so there is a proxmox proxy to expose the ports for imap?

No, the PMG is only in between the sending and receiving mail servers: https://pmg.proxmox.com/pmg-docs/pm...ation_into_existing_email_server_architecture

Access of your users to their mailboxes on your exchange server is not going via the PMG at all. That's what I wanted to convey.

I know, but is there anything other than pmg that whosts this traffic for me without sharing the exchange externally

Someone else might have some ideas on how to protect an Exchange server.
A VPN would probably be the safest approach, but also cumbersome for the end-users. Otherwise, you will have to expose the web interface, IMAP, EAS and whatever client protocol you need, to the internet in some way more or less direct for them to be able to use it.

Firewall rules, reverse proxy? I don't know what you're trying to achieve.
