Hello,

I constantly see these errors in backup. Backups seems to be fine, but not sure if this would be an issue:

Can the content in dump/ folder safely be deleted? It seems there are still files in it from a long time ago and it keeps there
 
Hi,
what backup tool are you using? This doesn't look like the output Proxmox VE would generate. You should contact the developer of that tool to ask about any issues.
 
I use the backup functionality in Proxmox VE itself. The backup goes to a PBS server
So no, no external plugins or something
 
@maenda did you resolve your issue. I have been having problems with a Windows VM for months. It does not recover after a backup. In the log I have the entry "skipping guest-agent 'fs-freeze', agent configured but not running?" in the log.

I'm not backing up to any cloud storage and the log indicates that the backup completed successfully.

please share the full backup task log and output of pveversion -v. If you are backing up to a network storage, you might want to enable backup fleecing: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/chapter-vzdump.html#_vm_backup_fleecing

There is a bug with suspend mode for VMs, that the freeze cannot happen, because the VM is already suspended. I'd recommend using snapshot mode for VMs.

Please also share the VM configuraiton qm config 101. Is the IO Thread setting active on the VM's disks (can be set when editing the disk settings)? You could also consider setting a bandwidth limit or limiting the IO Workers for VM backup (can be set in Advanced Options when editing the backup job).

I'd first test with that. If it doesn't help, see my previous answers for more options you could adapt.
 
Sadly the Windows VM did not recover. I think a full reinstall might be the only solution. The screen as seen from the Console (RD does not work) seems to be stuck in the wait look. The stuck circle is not due to the snapshop; it is frozen like that.

Hey I'm not entirely clear on which bit you are troubleshooting, but I see in your earlier log:
skipping guest-agent 'fs-freeze', agent configured but not running?

And I don't see that in the more recent log.

Is the guest agent installed? Its there to support operations like backups.
 
I noticed that. I am now convinced that something is wrong with the VM itself. It works without a glitch except that after a backup is does not recover. I had another Windows 2016 VM and this never had an issues coming up after the backup finished.

As you can see from my screen shot, the console shows a stuck operation (the rotating circular hour glass). That was not moving. After I Stopped it and started again it worked like a charm.

Guest agent is installed.

Would anyone know Windows logs I could look up to see the OS load at the time of the boot?

I'm creating a new VM to replace this one that fails on Backup. I've tried stop, suspend. Pity because it was configured well and with the exception of failed freeze and thaws (in suspend mode) it works like a charm. Anyway I was testing the backup process with the new VM included in the mix and had this VM running.

Two observations:

I was monitoring the VM when I got a BSOD. Not sure if it is as a result of the failed freeze/thaw but am including it here in the off-chance that someone unlucky has a similar case.
