Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue when trying to install AdGuard Home or Pi-hole using the well-known tteck scripts on my Proxmox setup. I’m using Proxmox VE 8.4.1 (fresh install, multiple times just to be sure) on an Intel-based laptop.

Whenever I run the scripts (e.g. adguard-home.sh, pihole.sh), I get the following error:
⚠️ This version of Proxmox Virtual Environment is not supported
Requires Proxmox Virtual Environment Version 8.1 or later.

The strange part is that I am on 8.4.1, so clearly my version is new enough.

I was able to solve a similar issue with the Home Assistant script using ChatGPT by editing the script manually and bypassing the version check, but in the case of AdGuard or Pi-hole, the version check is pulled in dynamically via a remote functions.sh file.

I’ve tried downloading the helper script locally and editing it, but I’m wondering:

  • Is there a cleaner or more future-proof workaround?
  • Is this a known issue?
  • Could it be due to something with the hardware (Intel laptop)?
  • Or is pveversion possibly returning an unexpected value?

Would appreciate any insight from others who might have seen this.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @igiderbree , welcome to the forum.

Please see the warning at the top of the original repo here: https://github.com/tteck/Proxmox
Review the message with the link to new repository and if you are still having issues after adjusting your source, you should direct all questions to new repo maintainers.

Cheers

hi @bbgeek1 ,Ok, but what does it say at the top of the git hub page? I don't know what you mean.
The repository is marked as read-only - in other words, it’s no longer maintained. This is due to the unfortunate passing of the original author. With just a bit of effort, you can find more background on this.

The scripts are now maintained by a group of volunteers under the new name Proxmox VE Helper-Scripts. Once again, additional details are readily available online.

You referred to the scripts as “tteck,” which possibly means you were using an outdated version - unless, of course, you were using the name as a catch-all term.

Best of luck.
