On the http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap#Roadmap it says that "More storage plugins on the GUI" will arrive or are being worked on. Can the Proxmox team share some more details of what is being considered?

We do not release detailed working plans here.
If you want to develop something yourself, you should use the development mailing list to get in sync.
