Hi All,

I tried to deployed Proxmox on an"old" DELL PowerEdge R710 that has Perc 6/i controler.
No disk where detected as I need to build RAID 0,1,... VD disk.
I can't use JBOD on this old 3GPBS controler.
It seams that I should replace it with DELL H200 controler. Butin which mode ? IR or IT ?
With IR I will proably keep iDrac feature (if I succeed to udpate it) ?
With IT may be I get more direct access to disk from VM ?

What are your recommendations ?
Any tips on old DELL R710 ? like bios or firmware upgrade ?
I did update BIOS to last version 6.6.0
Also for PERC 6/i but i will remove it.
Any thing for the integrated NIC ?
I also have 2 other controlers for external connection to Disk bay, how could I identify them and upgrade them if need.
Any end to end guid on DELL R710 will be apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps start at the beginning.

Its completely possible and workable to use a raid controller with pve. The discussion with regards to zfs vs lvm on raid is moot if you dont have an HBA NOR defined what the use case is.

Question the wisdom of turning it on. It consumes a LOT of wattage for the low relative performance it provides. Otherwise, pve should work out of the box.

I would like to not use is, so I brought a new LSI controler however it won't works. Poweredge refuse to boot because of the new controler.
I'm looking for someone who sucessfully install on poweredge.
I've got a R910, disk (raid 0) are detected for test but install fails :
seams painfull to install proxmox on Dell PowerEdge servers :-/
