Windows Server 2022 Datacenter activation

we are currently discussing whether you have to activate windows server datacenter on the proxmox hosts or on the virtual machines running windows server 2022. Does anyone already have experience with this?

Did you mean to say "whether you need to pay license for cores based on the total available to hypervisor or those made available to virtual machine"? Because you cant activate windows license on a Linux based hypervisor, of course.
