PVE upgrade 6 to 7 VMs with nested virtualization hang

Hello friends,

I do run a PVE (4 x AMD EPYC 7702P 64-Core Processor) run at Netcup with nested virtualization. And it worked great. After I upgraded to PVE7 all containers still work good, but the VM hang. Only if I set "kvm hardware virtualization" to NO they start at all, but of course with the heavy performance impact.

Additional info, if I run kernel 5.4.73-1-pve instead of 5.15.x everything works normal.

We had the same issues. You need to stay on kernel 5.4, since there have been breaking changes/fixes since kernel 5.8 for AMD EPYC.
Those changes are incompatible Netcup's host kernel - they're using a custom kernel 5.4.

Sorry. No way around this, since Netcup doesn't want to upgrade their servers.

I'm trying to install a 5.4 kernel, as I started with a 5.15. How do I get the old package version for pve-kernel ? The repo doesn't seem to show them.

there is no 5.4 kernel for Proxmox VE 7. If you really need it, you need to manually get it from the repository for Proxmox VE 6, but I really wouldn't recommend it, because it's end-of-life since a while and there are no (security) fixes.
