This seems to happen when I have a guest running for some time, if I later bring up the VNC console (currently noVNC) some of the windows and sometimes even the desktop is black - if I click on the black window or desktop it seems to refresh just fine, but sometimes it doesnt.

Is there something like a config or different VNC viewer I should switch up to mitigate this issue?
It's not a real problem but it is kind of annoying having to go clicking around on things so you can see everything each time I bring up a console.

thx

edit: it also happens even if I leave it up, the whole window goes black but as I mouseover and click on things, the desktop/apps come back

Looks like the guest power tools are involved. You should disable any power management function inside of the guest.

I never even thought to look into this - strange that the un-blacking of the display happened window by window... thanks for the tip!

Yeah, this "blackening" stuff is really strange. I also have it for some programs (e.g. disk cleanup wizard in windows) that is there and then it is not.
Most modern OSes are aware that they're emulated so that they disable stuff automatically, but this does unfortunately not always work.
