I am selling my PVE system and will be building a more power efficient one in the very near future. I have abou 10 VMs that I want to keep. I can redo any of my configurations for Proxmox, but I do not want to lose my VMs.

Can I just run a backup and restore the vma.vst files? Should I build a Proxmox backup system and backup to that and then restore from that system to the new one?

yes, the easiest way is to make backups and restore them. As always, testing restore (with fresh IDs) before you get rid of the original VMs is a must-do!

I'd say using PBS just for that is not worth it, but if you want the additional features like deduplication in the long run, you can set up an instance of course.
